The NFC East division title is there for the taking. And a chance for the Eagles to end a historic streak.
With a win on Saturday over the Washington Commanders, the Philadelphia Eagles would become the first team in 20 seasons to win the NFC East in consecutive seasons. It is the longest such streak of any division in NFL history. The Eagles were the last NFC East team to lay claim to consecutive division crowns, with four straight crowns from 2001-04.
First things first, the Eagles have to take care of business in Landover, Maryland against a Washington Commanders team that ended a dubious streak of their own on Sunday, halting an eight-game losing streak with a win over the New York Giants.
This is the first of two matches between the NFC finalists from last season over a three-week span. The Commanders will not make a return trip to the playoffs, as last year's AP Offensive Rookie of the Year Jayden Daniels is sidelined with a dislocated elbow injury that he reaggravated on December 7 in Minnesota.
Former Eagles quarterback Marcus Mariota will lead the Commanders into action. Last year in Washington, the Eagles were forced to rely on a backup quarterback in Kenny Pickett after Jalen Hurts exited the game with a concussion. Pickett battled, but the Eagles' franchise-record-tying 10-game win streak came to an end at the hands of Washington. The Eagles won the grudge match in the NFC Championship to advance to Super Bowl LIX. This time around, Philadelphia can punch its ticket to the playoffs.
