TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, June 11 (PIA) -- A high-value target was nabbed in a cockpit arena in this city during the joint buy-bust operation of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Region 2 and the Philippine National Police (PNP) yesterday, June 10.
PDEA Regional Director lawyer Roselyn Borja identified the suspect as Jonjie Pentecostes, 44, and a resident of Barangay Paradise in Gonzaga town and the son of Mayor Marilyn Pentecostes of Cagayan town.
According to PDEA Jonjie is the leader of the notorious "JJ" drug group and considered as high-value target included on President Rodrigo Duterte's drug list.
According to Borja, the PDEA in cooperation with the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency (NICA), have been monitoring the suspect's lifestyle and activities following the reports that he is behind the illegal drug trading in the province.
Seized from the suspect is 1-piece heat sealed transparent plastic sachet suspected to be shabu weighing 0.7 grams with an estimated market value of P4,900.00 and 2 pieces genuine P1,000.00 bill used as buy-bust money.
The director said Jojie tested positive in a drug test conducted after his arrest. She added a lifestyle check was also conducted since the suspect seems to live in luxury.
He is now under police custody and was charged with violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Last year, Jonjie and his brother were also arrested for illegal possession of firearms. Jonjie, who has been in the narco list since 2016, surrendered to the PNP's Oplan Tokhang but continued his illegal drugs trading activities until his recent arrest.
Borja clarified that the suspect was not arrested because he attempted to exchange gunshots with the PDEA agents and police authorities as reported in the national television.
"It is not true that Pentecostes [Jojie] was arrested because he attempted to shoot our agent. There was no attempt for him to shoot one of our agents," Borja added. (OTB/PIA 2-Cagayan)
