Fiat car workers in Italy have been running protests over the company’s future in its home country.

Fiat has been holding talks with union leaders, who want to prevent closures at the Mirafiori plant, Fiat's largest factory.

Italy’s Labour Minister, Maurizio Sacconi, has told Fiat a closure with resultant job losses would destabilise industrial relations.

The site employs some 5,800 workers, many of whom have been out in protest at a Fiat decision to move production of some of its popular models to Serbia.

Fiat has said it wants to place employees on more flexible contracts.
